The Natural Dream

Rooted in the storytelling legacy of Kalighat painting, this series moves from social satire into contemporary myth-making. Each figure becomes an archetype of transformation—the Seeker, the Mirror-Bearer, the Nurturer, the Double. They inhabit a liminal world where gender is not fixed fate but chosen becoming. Like mythic beings who shift forms, these subjects cross thresholds between Babu and Bibi, masculine and feminine, self and
reflection.

Adornment reads as ritual; dressing becomes invocation. Flowers, jewels, and mirrors operate as talismans of self-realization. The acts of pairing, longing, and caregiving propose new origin stories for kinship beyond biology. If traditional myths explained cosmic order, these images narrate an inner cosmos—where identity is fluid, cyclical, and self-authored. The myths they propagate are gentle yet radical: that the soul has no gender, that care defines family, that transformation is sacred, and that visibility is a rite of existence. In this
sense, the series does not merely depict lives—it seeds future folklore.
